Balanced Argumentation

Taylah:
The issue is should cats be banned.
Some people believe they should.
On the other hand, some people
believe they shouldn’t. We will
look at both sides of the argument.

Arguments for cats being banned:
They kill our native birds
in the country and that
means they could possibly
be endangered in around
2-3 years. They rip your
furniture and it basically
forces you to pay and fix it.
Since they sleep most of the day,
at night they could be roaming
around meowing and keeping you
awake.
The facts:
They kill our native birds and if they keep
killing them they could eventually go extinct.
They scratch open your furniture while
trying to sharpen their claws.
Cats like to roam around and walk

on your bed at night because they sleep most of the day.

Arguments for cats not being banned:
Cats are great pets to help with struggles.
They are great family pets. They won’t get
in your way while working.

The facts:
Cats can sometimes help with anxiety.
Cats do great with little kids. They won’t
get in your way while working because
they sleep a lot.

My personal opinion:

I personally believe cats should not be
banned. However, others believe they
should.

SLJ Paying it forward

if I could go back in time to the great depression (1930's) I would give them nice clean clothes and I would try my best to give them a nice life. I would give them food, not just one selection I would give them a couple of selections to choose from. and I would give them blankets for warmth. I would give them some money to pay for the things they really need. I would give them towels for them to dry off. I would give them the medication they need.

Indentifying Variables

Identifying Variables
A science experiment has three kinds of variables.
Independent variable – The factor that changes in an experiment
Dependent variable – What is being measured in an experiment
Control variable – The factor that remains constant in an experiment
Identify the three variables in the following scenarios

Two groups of fifth graders were tested to compare their speed solving long
division problems. One group had calculators, the other didn’t.
What is the dependent variable?  The speed of what they have made
____________________________________________________________
What is the independent variable? One group has calculators and the other
group dosen’t _________________________________________________
What is the control variable? There the same age

Students of different grades were given the same jigsaw puzzle to assemble.
The time they took to assemble it was measured.
What is the dependent variable? Jigsaw puzzle ____________________________________________________________
What is the independent variable? Students of different grades ____________________________________________________________
What is the control variable? They took time to assemble

Scratch

Questions:

When was scratch invented / made?
Can you make your own characters in scratch?
How do you use scratch?
Why is the cat the most famous thing in scratch?
Why have they created scratch?
Can there be other animals on scratch?

Scratch language

People use scratch because they can create interactive stories ,games ,animation
In the simplest terms, the Scratch language is a free programming language where you move blocks (also
called bubbles) into a set order, then configure some of the blocks to create interactive stories, games, and
animations.
The event-driven language is fairly easy for anyone to learn, regardless of age. Scratch rewards tweaking
and playing, either from a blank slate or by modifying existing code. The language also has been adapted
into new languages and inspired other languages.
Started in 2007, Scratch is a project of the Lifelong Kindergarten Group at the MIT Media Lab. Since the
project started, 3.6 million people have signed up on their website and over 6 million Scratch projects have
been shared with other members of the community. Scratch also includes a very active community of
teachers, as well as support for parents helping kids learn the language.

What makes scratch special?
While the Scratch language is fairly easy to use, fun, and addictive, the language is special for two main
reasons, its community and how Scratch encourages kids to learn then take risks to adapt what they’ve done.
While not everyone wants to be a programmer, everyone benefits from projects that teach creative problem-solving. The ability to imagine, create, play, and reflect are critical skills regardless of your age. The
language hides the difficult parts of programming (different languages have different syntax, for example)
while exposing details that lets people configure actions. It’s much easier to touch a block then type in the
number of seconds to perform an action than type the same action in Python or JavaScript. Dragging the
blocks into order also is fairly easy for anyone to understand.
The use of configurable blocks instead of traditional code makes it easier for people think creatively, reason
systematically, and work collaboratively as they create their projects.
The community is the other half of Scratch. Their website makes it easy to share projects, as well as find
projects other people have completed. The community provides support online. And the community extends
offline in numerous classrooms, hackathons, and local groups that use Scratch to teach programming.
ScratchEd, the community for teachers, also is a very active place to share stories, share resources, ask
questions, and find people to help.
Both the Scratch online community and ScratchEd are great resources for parents who want to work with
their kids to learn the language. The Scratch team also has a web page for parents with lots of links.
Finally, Scratch is available in 40 languages and used in 150 countries.

Pets Report

Pets Writing
Intro: If you have always wanted to have a pet, some of these tips will tell you to look after it properly.

Paragraph 1: Feeding.
Pets need food to live. Pets need to eat so that they can stay healthy. If pets eat, they would be able to gain the protein they need. Feeding pets is a big part it owning them. If you feed pets the wrong type of food, they could get sick so you want to find the right food for them. For example, Dogs and cats should eat biscuits and meat. Pets should be feed 2, or 3 times a day. Pets can live up to 3 weeks without food but you shouldn’t try that. Some pets can pass away from starvation earlier. One thing you should be careful with dogs is chocolate. Milk chocolate can make them sick and lots can sometimes make them die, but dark chocolate just kills them. Food with caffeine is bad for animals. This is because dark chocolate has more caffeine in it. If you have a baby pet, you want to make sure you give them smaller bits than adult pets because they can choke on the bigger bits. Once you buy the animal, a cat and a dog would need bowls to be fed in them. You could also get treats to train your pets to do awesome tricks.

Paragraph 2: Giving Attention.
You should give pets the right amount of attention they need. Pets need attention to be able to trust you. If they don’t trust you, they could run away. They should also get attention so that they know that they are always loved by you. They should always be happy, so giving them the right attention should boost their mood up. If you come home from a long day, they would be excited to see you so it’s good to give them enough attention. The most common places to pat a dog would be stomach rubs, head scratches and a nice stroke down the back, the tail and legs aren’t really a good idea. Cat’s would like scratches behind the ears and strokes down the back, the stomach rubs sometimes work but some cats would bite you. Pets love attention so why not give them some?

Paragraph 3: Exercising Them.
Pets need to exercise to stay healthy. You can exercise you pet by walking it, walking it enough could make your pet strong and healthy. Not exercising your pet could lead to them being weak. If you exercise your pet, they can use up all their energy outside and be happy. Dogs would love to run outside so it would be good to let them run around for a little bit. Some pet’s can be like humans, exercising them can gives them stronger muscles. Cats don’t really like walking but some cats walk with a harness around their chest. Dogs just walk with it attached to their collar. As your pet grown you would need to adjust the collar to make sure they don’t choke. Sometimes people get harnesses for their dogs so that the lead just attaches to the back of their harness. They get the harness because if they attach the lead to the collar if you tug it it could tug on their neck and hurt them. Once you get the pet you have to make sure you have the right equipment. For example a cat and a dog would need a collar and a dog would need a lead as well. You should also let the pet get used to the area so they know where home is. Like I said in paragraph one, the treats can be used to train your pet. Some of the things you can train them to do is, beg, speak, roll over, sit, lay down jump and a lot more cool things.

Conclusion: those were some tips on how to look after a pet. Make sure you look after your pet well.
